Husband is short selling home that he bought before marriage, how does it affect me?
My husband bought a house 2 years before we married. We've been married 3 years. He is doing a short sale on his home. How does this affect me? I have a house in my name only. We have no banks accts or credit cards together. The only thing we do jointly is our taxes. I have heard that the lender has up to 5 years to collect any money owed that wasn't recovered in the new purchase. Can the lender come after any of my savings acct's because we are married? I'm pretty sure it won't affect my credit since my name is nowhere on the loan or the house. But I'm not positive. We live in Calif.
